London, Cambridge 2016.

It’s always interesting to see how people are celebrating New Year in other countries:)

Outside is winter 2015 year, a bit snowy in Latvia. Today is December 31 and we parked our car near the airport and are ready for a flight 🙂

New year is coming! Happy 2016!

Yeha, yeah, I know, this photo is not about traveling, but it about emotions you can get travelling around with friends:)

Ready, steady go! but mind the gap 😉 ! We are using the London Underground to get to the city center. It’s easy, fast and not pricey at all 🙂

Of cause there are plenty things to do on New year Eve, but we decided to see London’s famous fireworks and to be a part of this hustle and bustle around us 🙂 We are going to do it on the one of the world’s famous bridges:) – Tower Bridge!

Just imagine the entire crowd singing “Auld Land Syne” after the midnight. It was awesome!

This time we have no MUST see/do list during our trip, so we are just strolling along the river, enjoying the views,  taking a photos, celebrating the life 🙂

Here is St. Paul’s Cathedral on our way, it stands at the highest point in the City of London. Both inside and outside the cathedral is a work of art, you can’t even imagine the size of this historical building until you’re standing near it.  It’s night, so we have no opportunity to visit cathedral, but if you’ll have it, do it, go inside! It worth it and the views at the top are spectacular!

Even if you have no plans to do, London is so vibrant city both during the day and throughout the night, you will always find something happening even after the dark, even on the New Year night:)|

Who is crazy here? WE are 🙂 Why? Only we can go geocaching during our New Year walk.

DSC_1487

Yep, I’m satisfied 🙂 found some micro geocaches:) Let’s continue our aimless stroll 🙂

Familiar sight can still be seen on the streets in London – red phone boxes!

Nowadays  half of those are decorative rather than operational, cause mobile phones became our every day life 🙂 so there are getting less and less red phone boxes every year 🙂

We found the one rare variant – the black one 🙂

Here are one more timeless classic in London… famous red double-deckers 🙂 Yeahh , it’s the public transport in the UK, so simply buy a ticket at the ticket machines in the Underground or at the railway stations :), take a sit on the top deck, course it’s fun 🙂 and watch the city go by from the top deck of a classic red bus!

1st of January is always a lazy day 😉 So, no rush 🙂

DSC_1526

We are walking in a Highams Park, lovely and quite residential area (20 min to London city) and even here you can always find some small local gems 🙂 Here is one of them, cute book exchange box. It’s a place where you can take a book for free or leave yours for somebody else 😉  They are in many shapes and sizes with great variety of books.

If you’ll ask me – Which book I associate with London? The first one what comes in my head will be Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories about Sherlock Holmes and dr. Watson.

So, yeahh, we are going to visit one of the world’s most famous addresses – 221B Baker Street, London.

221B Baker Street exists! Here you can find The Sherlock Holmes Museum.

So if you like Holmes, visit it, get insight into the life and stories of  London’s iconic detective.

Hole street near the museum is full with souvenir’s shops. Holmes himself didn’t have so nice t-shirt:) but I’m going to have:)))

If you wanna to see breathtaking views of London skyline and don’t have acrophobia visit one more touristic spot – London Eye. It’s The Great Wheel, that elegantly rotates over the River Themas.

Don’t miss to meet face to face with famous clock tower which stands at the Houses of Parliament  – The Elizabeth Tower, known informally as Big Ben (the name was first given to the Great Bell.) It is very unique and looking more pretty that in the pictures. We would say that this iconic London clock is a must on your visit!

It’s getting dark quite fast in January, so let’s walk around the city and enjoy some glittering night views.

Soaking up this magical evening atmosphere! Great illumination, the neon lights all around us 🙂

Today we are going to visit Cambridge, of cause it’s famous for it university, but for us it will stay in our memories as romantic medieval town.

We found a nice statue of marching soldier, that represent victory – Cambridge war Memorial near to one entrance to the Botanical Gardens.

Walked on the Bat man street :))

Explored city on foot, but in winter it’s getting dark quite fast, so we have no opportunity to see all gems of Cambridge, so if you want to see more come early to explore it all.

Here we are just wandering aimlessly through the city, enjoying gorgeous architecture.

We found this cute statue accidentally not so far from a Guildhall. It attracted me with it’s white cat, cause I’m a bit crazy in my cat love:)

Took a photo and got some info in Google about this statue – this work of art was installed in 2012 and is dedicated to a person – Snowy Farr, man who collected money for charity near Market Square and was always dressed distinctively in antique military wear and eccentric hats. He was often accompanied by live animals including mice, cats and a goat 🙂

The dark  came so fast 🙂 but we decided to see probably the most recognizable building in Cambridge – King’s College and King’s College Chapel. It’s one of the greatest examples of late Gothic English architecture.

We walked along the riverside to enjoy this splendid architecture, it’s really very picturesque area!
