Day 8. Cartagena city. Batería de Castillitos. Gredas de Bolnuevo.

 

We start this sunny morning in Cartagena!

Let’s start to explore this city with one of Cartagena’s most impressive modern wonders – the 100 year-old city hall on Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

Amazing architecture and if get closer, you’ll even see a few bullet holes from the Civil War 😦

Not so far there is a huge statue on the promenade, that was build for victims of terrorism.

Very emotional and beautiful piece of art. Sit near and think about those who have suffered from terrorism:(

Beautiful roman amphitheater is probably the most famous landmark in Cartagena. It is free, well presented and restored!

The perfect example of Roman architecture, built between the fifth and first centuries BC. Here is a magnificent view from the top!

You can walk a bit up to the special view point and get stunning marina and city views!

Then we decided just to stroll around the city without any destination:)

Cartagena is beautiful historic city. Small plazas hidden in the city are so impressive and fantastic!

Cartagena streets are really lovely, but the road is calling and we are riding again:)

About 40 – 50 minutes from Cartagena is an amazing place to visit – Batería de Castillitos!! It worth the time we spent for this trip!!

The rode is very steep, long and narrow but at the same time the views are tremendous!

Drive carefully! Sometime you did not wish to see another car going in the opposite direction)

Then you need to walk to the fortress. No entrance fee but at the same time no facilities like a cafes, restaurants, shops and toilets, so take at least a bottle of water with you:)

It was built in the mid-30’s as part of a series of batteries defending Cartagena’s coast.

The largest guns that I have ever seen, look there is a man sitting on the top! They are stupendous, with barrels over 10m long! oO

The views over the bay and out to sea are wonderful.

Definitely this is a great place to hike, climb, enjoy this extraordinary mountainous landscape and take incredible photos at 250 meters above the sea!

We exchanged mountain views to the sea side panoramas 🙂 We need to ride 205 km more to our next hotel 😉

We stopped in a small city – Puerto de Mazarrón to enjoy our lunch on the sea promenade

Bright, colorful and sunny moments of life 🙂

We found magnificent natural phenomena called – Gredas de Bolnuevo on our way to Almeria – rocks with amazing shapes sculpted by sand, water and wind.

It’s so incredible what nature can create! By the way, there is a lovely beach opposite to these rocks 🙂

Highway perfect scenery. You even don’t want to drive 120km/h 🙂 because you are unable to catch details driving that fast 🙂 and there are a vast variety of surprises around each corner! 🙂

Today we are staying in small city Almeria for a night 🙂 Tomato plantation are everywhere around it:) and there is a tomato on the city – sign:) Probably will find some more tomorrow 🙂
