The Wachau Valley is an Austrian region near the Danube River. It’s considered one of Europe’s most enchanting river valleys.
The Wachau is a stretch of the Danube Valley between Melk and Krems city.
Krems is the capital of the World Heritage region Wachau. If you enjoy shopping then Krems is for you. A lot of small and super interesting shops!
As well as charming mix of medieval and Baroque architecture.
Here you can find historic architecture in the old town, excellent restaurants, cafes and plenty of wine shops 🙂
Peaceful and enjoyable city to walk through.
Just look at this tiny and so cosy streets!
Can’t stop to take photos!:)
The Wachau Valley is covered with vineyards…
Autumn time is really perfect time for tasting … :)) yeahhh, I’m on time!
One more great city to visit is Dürnstein. Probably it’s one of the most-visited in the Wachau Valley wine-growing region.
Wine enthusiasts will get lost in vinothek, some more steps and vinothek and one more…. vinotheks 😉 It’s really a good place to taste or get all sorts of Austrian wines, brandies and other specialty products.
I will remember this place for it’s apricot champagne as well! I’ve never tried it before! You can try or buy all kind of goods from apricots only here, in Dürnstein. (even whiskey. oO )!
City is full of labyrinthine cobbled streets and pastel shade houses.
Here you can find a lot of traditional Austrian restaurants.
Wanna some history? Dürnstein Abbey is right on the edge of the Danube. Easy to find -stately blue Baroque tower is a local landmark.
It’s mentioned as a nunnery in 1289, then it had become an Augustine monastery (16th century) and after 200 years it was given it’s present Baroque look.
The Wachau has inspired romantic legends for centuries and the castles are full of tales of love and heartbreak, particularly from the medieval days. Fantastic place to be!
From the river’s banks, vineyards reach into the hills….There’s enough history, great food and of course the world famous Austrian white wines. It’s a good reason to visit this valley!
This trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to nearby Melk Abbey. It’s one of Europe’s great sights! It’s a place of spirituality and a Christian center, here monks still live in accordance with the rules of Saint Benedict.
The vivid yellow of the Melk Abbey is one of the biggest and most beautiful European Baroque ensembles.
Apart from the Baroque beauty, the visit to the monastery rewards you with lovely views from the panoramic balcony and wonderful walk in the Abbey Park.
It’s all for today! Tomorrow will be new day and new emotions:)
See you tomorrow 🙂
Don’t sit at home. Travel! Travel with me! 🙂 Meaww!
