It was April 2015 outside and we have decided to visit Klaipeda on weekend. We know that it’s small and cozy Lithuanian port city, so let’s check it out!
Just 4 hours by car away from our home town Riga, so Friday after work we headed to Klaipeda!
Hello! Let’s take a classic shot of water drain 🙂
It’s Friday evening, so all roads leads to the bars! 🙂 There are lot of them in the old town, so you’ll have an opportunity to choose 🙂
We found a red dragon on our way to the bar, which was climbing by the wall and there was his footprint on the ground 🙂 The legend says that there where two brothers, who decided to look for a place for a city and then suddenly one of them disappeared and another one found only this terrific footprint.
Hey, hey, cheers for Friday in Klaipeda!
One more nice sculpture in the night on our back way to a hotel:) It’s a Mermaid, you can find by the river, just take some steps down by stairs. Yeaaaah, she is hot, so be gentle hugging her! :)) By the way her tail is made out of the old Lithuanian coins 🙂
Morning! We are ready to explore the old city! It’s quite and pretty!
The old town is charming, full of lovely small buildings and cobblestone streets. City’s architecture has great German and Scandinavian influence. When you go through the city – it so atmospheric and elegant.
Architecture is, hmm, let’s call it interesting, outside the old city.
The is a great monument “Arch” on our way. It’s dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Klaipeda’s region joining to Lithuania.
“We are one nation, one land, one Lithuania” written on it.
It’s situated near the Biržos bridge.
From the Biržos bridge you can look at great Meridinas Ship. This magnificent sailing vessel was built in 1948 and used as a training ship in the Lithuanian Maritime Academy. Nowadays it’s renovated, docked in the Danes river and you can find a great seafood restaurant inside 😉
If you are addicted to sailing I suggest you to visit the exhibition of historical fishing vessels in the open air. It’s really nice place to walk around.
We are back to the old town near the large cobblestone square in the heart of Klaipeda. Here you can find some nice restaurants, craft shops and small craft market where people are selling beautiful linen products, souvenirs and amber, a lot of amber 🙂
What to see more in small quite old town? – Ohh, it’s full of different, very charming sculptures! So, if you like interesting sculptures just stroll around Klaipeda, it’s place for you!
Here is one of them to hunt – “Cat with a Face of a Gentleman”. Rub his tail and your secret wishes will come true..”( Sculptor A.Bosas), so worth visiting and petting the cat’s tail 🙂
Try to catch tiny and very cute little mouse located close to a cat. Whisper your wish into her ears and it will come true 🙂
You can find variety of sculptures in the city. Look at this modern sculpture in the form of a piano wave. Isn’t it cool? You can find it in front of magic mouse 🙂
So many attractive sculptures to find! Look out for them everywhere.
Klaipeda will stay in our memories as romantic, calm and picturesque small town, filled with interesting sculptures 😉
On our way home we are stopped to visit Jonušai Mini Zoo. It’s very close to Klaipeda – only 15 min by car.
Ginger ones meet each other at the entrance 🙂
It supposed to be mini zoo, but in reality there are quite lot of animals to keep you entertained:)
Here you can find a lot of large cats and can see them really very close! A lot of beautiful animals but some of them are kept in an inappropriate conditions…
The end of this story 🙂
Tomorrow will be new day and new emotions:)
See you tomorrow 🙂
Don’t sit at home. Travel! Travel with me! 🙂 Meaww!
