Day 9. Portofino. Genoa.

Now, we are heading to Portofino.

We stayed for a night somewhere in a small village, nothing special, but the view from a terrace in the morning….hmmm…

The road along the coast is so scenic!

We are in Italy’s Liguria region, also called Italian Riviera:)

Portofino is a luxury holiday resort!

It’s a small Italian fishing village in general :), but it’s famous worldwide!

Visit an open-air museum close to the local marina, if you are visiting Portofino just for 1 day. Contemporary art works are located among trees in a beautiful terraced garden.

Of cause don’t miss fancy shops, bars and restaurants and a glamorous yacht club.

The drive along Italian riviera is so romantic, picturesque villages close to magnificent natural landscapes.

It a really the slice of Italian paradise. This is a place I want to come back one day!

We are in Genoa! To be honest, we are here only for a one reason ;))) To visit one of the largest aquariums in Europe, which is located in the Old Port of Genoa.

Here you can find dolphins, manatees, seals, turtles, sharks… a vast variety of fish species…

Old port is heart and soul of this city! There are a lot of attractions around!

The biosphere contains a tropical garden, some rare tropical plants and animals. It ‘s not so big, so I would say it will take you about 5-10 minutes to see it 🙂

The Via Garibaldi is one of the most popular and important streets in Genoa and is famous for its large amount of palaces and fine architecture, build by the richest and powerful families in Genoa in 15th and 16th centuries.

Let’s look at Genoa from above and enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city and port. We are in a city park with a waterfalls and here is a museum of oriental art on the top as well, but we are here 100% due to the view 🙂

As in many other cities you can explore it buy special touristic bus 🙂

One more place to be is Piazza De Ferrari. It is the main square, surrounded by grand buildings with Neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau architectural designs. There is a beautiful fountain in the center and the busiest streets radiate from it in all directions.

By the way, did you know, that Genoa is a birthplace of Christopher Columbus? Here are two towers of Porta Soprana, a gate in the city walls! Next to the gate you can visit Columbus home (he spent a childhood here) Google maps
