Day 2. Tree stones in Triopetra. Preveli palm beach. Old town in Rethymno.

Good morning!

There are a number of exciting things to do and places to visit in Crete.

From historical sites to amazing beaches 🙂

Let’s visit some of them!!

All you need is transport!!! We found a small rental company next to our hotel.

Andrew’s choice for today’s ride is Suzuki Intruder 🙂

Crete is divided into four regions and each has its own gem to be discovered!(Lasithi /Chania /Rethymno/Heraklion prefectures.)

It’s always a big question – What to start with?

It’s no matter for me which will be first place to visit – just don’t stop to explore!

Remember – if you going by motorcycle – sometime you have no place to put your personal stuff, so prepare to carry a small backpack))

Riding a motorcycle, feeling hot air in my hairs, enjoying views 🙂 What could be better?:)

DSC_0108

Less mountains and it’s getting greener view.

DSC_0114

Ohh, always be careful on the roads especially on the curves, because of wild animals!

DSC_0138

In 1,5h we reached the point on a google map:) Oh, no 😦 It isn’t correct place) Never be afraid to get lost :))

Here is a small and cozy beach and tavern with perfect refreshing drinks 🙂 So we enjoyed the moment 🙂 and only then found correct road) To see amazing three stones you need to come from Triopetra beach side ))

Yap! This is a correct place we were looking for! A lot of parking places shaded with trees 🙂 Wide and clean and thick sandy beach, not so popular touristic place, therefore pretty lonely 🙂

Let’s go closer!

Really cool spot to visit! We rest here a bit and ready to ride further!

DSC_0160

Sometime roads are windy, sometimes very narrow and sometimes sandy )

DSC_0203

Try to avoid small sandy roads 🙂

DSC_0221

In about 1 hour we get to Preveli beach parking place! It’s a big parking place, so you can easy find a place. 1 euro per bike and 2 euros per car for a day stay.

A steep path leads down to the beach from parking.

DSC_0232

It will take you 15-20 min to get to the beach, depends how many times you will stop to rest or take some photos 🙂

DSC_0233

I stopped a lot of times on my way 🙂 Look at these photo – the river Megalopotamos with palm forest empties into the Libyan Sea! Magnificent view!

DSC_0235

Getting closer to the beach. There are no have sun beds here! Natural vibes!

A nice combination – palm forest, river and sea!

Palms around! Let’s get lost in this palm tree forest!

Selfie time while our walk through the palms 🙂

DSC_0265

There is plenty of shadow thanks to the trees just behind the beach. Only one tavern is working here, so a choice of drinks and food is very limited.

A small advise, don’t miss to take a water with you on your way back 🙂 A pair of  shoes will be helpful during the hike) + wear a hat and do regular breaks, yeahh it’s hot! but you will be fine!

The views are superb and it’s totally worth the effort!

DSC_0282

Dinner with a ice cold beer in a cozy local restaurant! You deserved it!

DSC_0287

After each meal you will get some sweets/fruits/alcohol for free 🙂 Local hospitality!

DSC_0292

We are ready to go home!

DSC_0300

We cant’s sit at home(hotel) So we left our motorcycle and heading Rethymno!

Crete has a wide bus system. It’s easy, but you need to purchase tickets in advance in almost any shop. In our case 20 min bus ride cost us 1.80 euro per person.

DSC_0347

The old city of Rethymnon is beautiful and pleasant to walk around with its narrow streets without cars.

Old city is a result of the fusion of the Eastern Turkish elements with Venetian architecture of the Renaissance.

It is one of three best known landmarks of Rethymno – Rimondi fountain, water spouts from three lions’ heads 🙂

There are a lot of  modern influences with trendy boutiques, bars, cafes and restaurants.

DSC_0355

The old town has many small streets with lovely places. Enjoy delicious traditional Greek food in one of the small and cozy restaurant.

Find your way in to the heart of the narrow and cobbled streets.

Visit Venetian lovely harbor area. It’s a marvelous place to walk around.

Walking in the evening you will soak up the city’s atmosphere.

DSC_0396

Plenty of small shops all over the old town, relax whilst shopping 🙂

DSC_0420

Many shops are with unique and original artworks.

DSC_0423

Local people are so friendly and hospitable!!

I’ll give you an example –  we enter the shop, talk to the owner for 1 min and in 2 min we are sitting and trying different kind of raki (local alcohol) during the story how it was made by his family 🙂

DSC_0408

After some portions of raki Rethymno is so romantic in the evening… 🙂

DSC_0427

I think the town will suit all tastes and needs!
