Visit a fantastic museum – Railway museum, if you are in Riga.
You can find it on Uzvaras bulvāris 2a Google Map
It’s about 10-15 min walk from the old town. If you are going by car – there is free parking available near museum. You can use public transport to get here too (tram or bus stop called Nacionālā bibliotēka).
Admission fee: adults -2,5 euro. Students/seniors – 1,0 euro. For more information about fee and opening time visit the museum website
There are quite often extra exhibitions/parties/concerts and official event going on. So if you are lucky to be on that special days you can visit them also (for extra fee of cause:). We were lucky and visited “Art Fair Riga 2017” exhibition 🙂
So, let’s go inside and get tickets:) Keep them till the end of your visit:)
You can pay cash or with a card as well 🙂
The first you see is a impressive railway model 🙂
For extra 60 cents you can make this small railway world come to live 😉
And feel yourself like a child 🙂 Just stand and enjoy the small show with different trains going round and round.
If you still demand more endorphin you can buy special railway chocolate bar:) By the way – coffee machine is near the entrance:)
Ok, let’s get a bit serious and get to know something new about trains, railways, Latvian railway history and all the related stuff.
It really awesome that museum have interactive stands, videos. All materials are available in Latvian and English. It makes your visit more interesting and informative:) We watched a video how trains wagons were stopped at sorting station before new electronic technologies came on our lifes.
Moving further through the museum you are feeling yourself in huge train’s world!
You can get in in some trains and feel yourself like a train driver 🙂
You are allowed to pull levers and push buttons! 🙂
One more exposition you can visit is called “Life of a train station”.
It will take you into the magic of 19-20th centuries train stations. And aging tons of buttons you can press.
Here you can get train ticket according to your favorite route 🙂 No free.
Go out of the room (in a hall where you bought you museum ticket). Scan your ticket like on photo below. Listen how your train is going along the selected direction 🙂
But don’t forget to walk outside, around the museum. There are also some historical stands to read and incredible trains to see (you can get inside some of them:) )
As I said we were lucky and got extra event “Art fair Riga 2017”
