Day 2. Bergamo. Sermione. Verona.

Today we have huge plans! We start in Bergamo – city in Eastern Lombardy, Italy.

Here you can find “Città Alta,” upper city – hilltop medieval town and the “Città Bassa,” or lower city. They are connected through cable car, footpaths and roads.

Cable car line is too long and we are too lazy to walk up the hill. Thus, we drive to the very top by car:)

The old city of Bergamo is surrounded by amazing Venetian walls and there are several gates that stand today in fantastic condition – worth to look! Two of them show the Lion of St. Mark, a reminder that Bergamo, like much of northern Italy, was once part of the Venetian Republic.

We are looking for Cappella Colleoni. This chapel was a later addition to the Basilica and was built after it’s completion.

This is the most beautiful building in Bergamo for me)! A wonder of Italian Renaissance!

The front facade of the chapel is truly magnificent, made out of red and white marble.

Sometimes it’s a feeling that all narrow streets and alleyways are leading to it – Piazza Vecchia. The heart of Città Alta!

A wonderful spot with small cafes and restaurants to sit and admire the spirit of Città Alta.

Verona for me is associated with William Shakespeare! Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet!

So, let’s visit the house that once was inhabited by the Capulet family.

Inside the courtyard you can see the statue of Juliet and the famous balcony!

You can pay to tour the museum and stand on the balcony, if you want the full experience.

Before you leave remember to touch Juliet’s right breast if you want good luck for the rest of your life!:) the most polished breast you’ll ever touch!!:)
