It was April 2013 year outside and I had an opportunity to visit one more European capital! This time I’m in Slovenia!
A small story what I’ve seen in Ljubljana. I had only few free hours in two days, so no big plans – just walking around city on my heels!
Let’s start! First one shot is classic one, it’s local water-drain 🙂
Ljubljana’s old town is quite compact, it’s very easy and comfortable to walk around, a lot of small streets with charming squares and very lovely atmosphere.
It’s very nice place to wander around, explore the local market, relax in restaurants and cafes or just do shopping in local small shops:)
Architecture is also very beautiful here! So, keep going, exploring narrow streets and look around!
It’s 100% that you will find symbol of the city somewhere on your way!
Dragons! Dragons are everywhere! So, it’s not surprise that Ljubljana is called “the city of dragons” 🙂
The legend says the dragon, that lived in a swamp near the spring of Ljubljanica River, was killed by Jason (leader of the Argonauts in Greek mythology) who is known as the founder of the city.
So try to find a dragon you’ll like! My favorites are these ones:)
There are a lot glorious buildings of different architecture styles on my way!
This is probably the most famous touristic spot and one of the Ljubljana’s most significant landmarks. It’s always bustling! It’s the Triple Bridge! Lovely bridge with excellent stone balustrades and lamps. You can find it the hear of the city, next to the Prešeren Square.
I really enjoyed my slowly walk near The Ljubljanica River, it’s superb place for a leisurely stroll! Plus there are a lot small cozy cafe with terraces, where you can enjoy nice river views!
It’s so nice, when river is running through the city’s center!
There are some bridges you just won’t miss during your visit! I crossed over this one 3 times during the time I was in there.
It’s the Butcher’s Bridge. Once butchers traded their products here and throw out unsold wares right into the river at the end of the day:) but nowadays here is very nice new bridge with lovely view of the water.
Here is some reasons why you need to see it: It has glass floor, so you can walk over glass and see through it! You can find here a lot of padlocks of love connected to the railings of the bridge! and…
… here you can find statues by famous Bosnian-Slovenian sculptor Jakov Brdar. He is the author of many public statues and sculptures in Ljubljana. I liked these bizarre ones on the top of the bridge’s fence.
There is surprisingly many bridges in the city center! Here is one more beautiful piece of architecture! It’s the Dragon Bridge!!! It’s famous for it’s big sculptures of dragons 🙂 Its very picturesque!
Four big dragons are guarding the city! Your visit to Ljubljana wouldn’t be complete without attending them! From the bridge you can enter the pedestrian area of Ljubljana City or you can start your walk to the castle on the other side!
Yep, I’m going to visit the castle:) Yep, I’m on my high heels 🙂 Yep, the way is up the hill, but it can’t stop me 🙂
Look how beautiful is Ljubljana! Fantastic view!
BUT! You can’t see the real 12th-century castle 😦
Cause nowadays there is a completely rebuilt version of that castle, it’s only a replica 🙂 but still it’s very popular touristic attraction.
No real history, but still very nice place to visit and amazing views from here!
The views over the city are so magnificent from this spot. Though, it worth the hike up the hill!
Here are some lovely views of Ljubljana’s countryside on my way to the airport. Look at these green valleys, so peaceful atmosphere:)
Idyllic place to be and to live!
Local airport is quite small and located about 30 km away from the city:) It’s time to go home! I didn’t spend too much time in Ljubljana, so it would be nice to come back one day!!!
That’s all for today.
Tomorrow will be new day and new emotions:)
See you tomorrow 🙂
Don’t sit at home. Travel! Travel with me! 🙂 Meaww!
