Day 5. Achilleion palace.

It’s a new day! So we are ready to explore a new place! 🙂 Today it’s Achilleion palace! It is situated about ten kilometres south from the city of Corfu.

It was a summer residence of Elisabeth of Bavaria, Empress of Austria also known as Sisi.

Corfu was Sisi’s favorite vocation destination. The palace was designed by the Italian architect and hero Achilles is the central theme, it reflects Elizabeth’s love for Classical Greece.

The interior and exterior are decorated with statues of ancient philosophers, heroes, mythical ancient gods, as well is filled with memorabilia relating to Elisabeth of Bavaria, as well as the next occupant – Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Here is a beautiful gardens, green-wrapped terraces with fountains, colonnades and panoramic view over the Ionian Sea.

You can find all nine muses on the balcony of the first floor 🙂

During the First World War it was used as a military hospital. Since 1970s used as a casino and nowadays it’s a historical site 🙂 museum you can visit! Awesome!  If you’re looking for beauty and history, you will find it all in this place! Full ticket with audio guide is 10 euro.
